- Research schools and graduate schools
All PhD candidates are part of a graduate school or research school. Research schools are partnerships between multiple research universities and research institutes, while graduate schools are organised within universities. Both provide an inspiring research environment, offering tailor-made study programmes, master classes, seminars and conferences.

- A Dutch PhD is highly regarded
PhD from a Dutch university is highly regarded because of the high academic standards. The Netherlands has an excellent international ranking for the number of publications per researcher (2nd) and for the impact of research publication (4th).

- Where are PhDs offered?
In Holland, research is carried out by research universities, research institutes and companies, but only research universities can award PhD degrees. Other research institutes that work in close collaboration with a research university may also offer PhD positions.

Science without Borders
Science Without Borders (SWB) is a large-scale nationwide scholarship program primarily funded by the Brazilian federal government.
The program aims to enhance international education through the international mobility of graduate students, researchers, post-doctoral encouraging research, innovation and exchange between Brazilian universities and colleges around the world.

SWB Holland
Science without Borders Holland offers Full PhD and sandwich PHD scholarship for Brazilian Students in the following modalities:

*Full PhD

The students do a full PhD and obtain their degree at a Dutch institution. They receive a scholarship for a period up to 48 months.

Candidates should present academic credentials and show potential to pursue advanced studies, in SWB priority areas.

*Sandwich PhD

- PhD sandwich I
The PhD candidates do research at a Dutch institution but conclude their thesis in Brazil. They receive a scholarship for a period up to 12 months.
- PhD sandwich II
The PhD candidates do research at a Dutch institution obtain a double degree. They receive a scholarship for a period up to 24 months.

1. Candidate profile
Students formally enrolled in a PhD program in Brazil, qualified to use the opportunity abroad to develop studies in SWB priority areas.
